Although it is a campus-wide center at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the Center for Nonprofits is housed in the School of Human Ecology, which offers a Ph.D. in Human Ecology with a specialization in Civil Society and Community Research (CSCR). Through interdisciplinary coursework and research in community settings - often in collaboration with community organizations or coalitions - students in this Ph.D. program have opportunities to become participant-scholars in change processes, and learn human ecological theory and participatory and application-focused research methods in the process. The Center for Nonprofits acts as a research and outreach vehicle for much of the research that is conducted by CSCR faculty and students.
